My Father and My Son

So much has happened between my last entry ‘til now – between taking care of my father and my son (no, this is not the Trinity, but Lord knows I do need the strength that comes from His Holy Spirit!) I’ve had my hands full.

My papa had brain surgery - a silver dollar craniotomy – done last June 16th. He suffered an accidental fall last May, and had blood clots in his brain that needed to be drained. Initially the doctors had hoped that the blood would naturally recede back into the brain. But when his right side became prominently weak, and with the aid of an MRI scan, the doctors saw that the blood clot was causing pressure on the left side of the brain, and they deemed the brain surgery necessary to remove the blood clots. Me and my siblings all took leaves from work / home responsibilities and all came home to Manila to be with Papa during this crucial operation. Thankfully the operation was successful and his recovery was quite good, considering his age and the fact that he has had two strokes and an angioplasty in the past. He has been going through physical therapy to regain his strength and balance, and regular check-ups with his doctors.

My little giant had several health issues this trip of ours to Manila.

June: Impetigo – crusting around his left nostril caused by bacterial discharge

July: Roseola – He was running a very high fever in the 40’s, but was strangely not too fussy nor tired. When we saw the red marks on his chest, we knew it was roseola.

August: Sore Throat / Tonsilitis – upon his check up with his ENT, Dr. Quintos, she saw that he had little extradites again on his throat. He was prescribed antibiotics and got well in the span of two days.

I really pray that he gets healthier as he develops and grows further….
